The course is designed to provide the participant with the knowledge and skills to enable them to safely install MV cables.

The target learners for this course are people currently working within the Australian Electricity Supply Industry, including employees of network asset owners, developers and operators of high voltage networks, contractors and sub-contractors in electricity generation, particularly those in the wind and solar industries.

Delivered by industry Subject Matter Experts with recent experience, learning activities include:

This course can be delivered via Instructor led Face to Face and virtual online formats to meet your needs.

Upon successful completion of this course, Learners will be able to:

• Understand the components and basic theory of underground cable systems and power cable accessories.
• Identify Medium Voltage range of accessories, identifying key critical areas and installation best practices.
• Interpret and understand manufacturer’s jointing instructions, kit contents and product specifications.
• Discuss set up of joint bays and cable preparation areas to ensure cables and joints in correct final position.
• Interpret and understand the importance of stress control in cable systems.
• Understand the advantages and disadvantages of various sheath bonding system designs, including solid, single point bonded and cross bonding systems.
• Understand the importance of workmanship on cable systems 33kV and above.
• Identify and understand the use of specialist tools and equipment required for HV jointing.
• Understand electrical connection requirements, and the factors that impair performance.
• Understand the effects of soil thermal resistivity.
• Identify and understand the required quality compliance and testing procedures for pre & post underground cable installations.
