ElectraNet Switching Operator Cat2 Initial

Description

This course is designed to achieve Switching Officer (Trainee status) and involves practical and theory exercises.

Emphasis is placed on practical switching exercises, performed on the Client's own HV equipment. Participants are also taught switching theory and the responsibilities of permit users and recipients. Candidates are required to complete an ElectraNet Switching Licence Application Form.

Course aim

ElectraNet Switching Operator (Initial) Category 2 course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to understand and safely act as a switching operator, without restriction, on the ElectraNet transmission network. High Voltage Operator training is required for operators to switch HV plant and issue permits.

Target learner group

New HV Operators requiring initial training prior to developing practical switching experience under the supervision of their Employer.

  • Trainer led classroom presentations
  • Theory assessment
  • Onsite practical exercises and assessment

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of an Initial Course, a participant will have developed an understanding of:

  • The legislative framework that governs work activities on their site;
  • Relevant regulations and enterprise procedures;
  • Hazards associated with equipment and balance of plant;
  • The work permit process from application, preparation, isolation, issue, completion, cancelation and restoration, in compliance with your enterprise procedures;
  • Operation of high voltage, low voltage, control and protection devices associated with the site, in compliance with the enterprise procedures; and
  • The application and removal of fixed and portable earthing equipment, in compliance with enterprise procedures.

Please note: This course provides the successful attendees with a T2 or Trainee status. A full ElectraNet Cat2 Switching license is granted upon the completion of the ElectraNet Log Book. The Log Book is provided to attendees at completion of the Course. At the completion of these exercises, the candidate is required to arrange an interview with a RelyOn Australia Assessor and provide evidence to support the completion of each relevant exercise. The fee for this Log Book Interview is $840 ex GST. Please contact our office to arrange a mutually convenient time.

Equipment & PPE

Learners are required to have the following to participate in this course:

  • Hard hat,
  • Safety footwear,
  • Wrap around safety glasses,
  • Fire retardant overalls with plastic zip fasteners,
  • Work gloves (cotton or leather rigger type), and
  • Stationary (e.g. Pen, Pencil, etc.).

Equipment Requirements for Practicals and Assessment:

  • Approved live line tester (Modiewark or similar),
  • HV insulating gloves,
  • HV operating stick attachments (Modiewark and earthing), and
  • Gloves and test equipment must be within current test date.

Assessment approach

Learners will be assessed using a combination of the following methods:

  • Theory/Written Assessment
  • Direct Observation/Practical Assessment
  • Portfolio/Logbook

Course Entry Requirements

The attendee must submit a nomination form to ElectraNet via the ElectraNet Portal prior to being eligible to enrol in an initial course.
