Unattended Boiler Training

Description

This course is designed to train individuals who are required to work on an Unattended Boiler.

According to Standard AS3873-2001 Section 1.4.2 Boiler, Unattended: A boiler designed for fully automatic operation with fail-safe features and suitable for periods of operation without human supervision, subject to regular checks by a competent person and subject to specified supervision and maintenance procedures, (see AS 2593).

This course has been tailored based on industry best-practice and to be in accordance with the relevant standards and legislations. The course will be delivered by an experienced industry professional, bringing a depth of knowledge and experience to the learner.

Course aim

The course aims to give the learners an overall understanding of the operation of an unattended boiler unit and the relationships between the various systems within the unit cycle.

Learning activities

Delivery includes:

  • Trainer led classroom presentations
  • Theory assessment
  • Practical Exercise - Boiler and Fittings Familiarisation

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, a learner will have developed an understanding of the following:

  • Legislation, Australian Standards, organisational workplace standards, policies, relevant codes of practice, and required safe practices and procedures for planning work, starting and monitoring a boiler, and shutting down and storing an unattended boiler;
  • Laws and legislation of HRW including PPE, Risk & Hazard Controls, Safety Data Sheets and Confined Space, Fire Awareness & Control.
  • Principles of heat transfer & thermodynamics in relation to an unattended boiler operations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of types and characteristics of feedwater systems and treatment; Understand the various ancillaries (steam valves) fittings for the operation & maintenance of an unattended Boilers.
  • Workplace communication and techniques & procedure.

Equipment & PPE

Learners are required to have the following to participate in this course:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. Hard Hat, Safety Footwear, Approved Hi-Vis Clothing, Safety Glasses)
  • Stationary (e.g. Pen, Pencil, etc.)

Assessment approach

Learners will be assessed using a combination of the following methods:

  • Theory Assessment (e.g. Short Answer Questions, Multiple Choice)

Course Entry Requirements

To participate in this course, learners are required to:

  • be literate in spoken English and competent in reading, writing, and numeracy.

Accreditation Status

Non-accredited.
Upon successful completion, learners will receive Certificate of Completion - Unattended Boiler Training
