RelyOn leads the way with wind power qualification

In May 2022, the Australian Government published a plan to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

As Australia works to achieve this aim by reducing our carbon footprint, renewable energy options such as solar, hydropower, and wind will continue to increase in popularity. This, in turn, will require more qualified workers to install and maintain the infrastructure that is put in place.

RelyOn Australia is leading the way when it comes to wind power education with its Certificate IV in Wind Power Generation (UEP40622) qualification. RelyOn is currently the only RTO authorised to issue this qualification.

The Certificate IV in Wind Power Generation qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to work in wind power generation. The skills and knowledge associated with this qualification are intended to apply to a wide range of wind power generation work, including wind farm maintenance, wind turbine maintenance, and repair.

The qualification, which is most suited to established technicians with about 3 years’ experience, has a total of 19 units comprising 12 core units plus seven elective units.

The burden on sites is minimal as the RelyOn team offers guidance on the evidence required and conducts all the assessments with feedback to the students where additional units are absent (in the case of mandatory Units of Competency), or alternative units for the electives.

Hugh Cameron TrainerHugh Cameron Experienced TrainerThe Certificate IV in Wind Power Generation qualification is being delivered by experienced trainer, Hugh Cameron.

Having started his career in Aviation, Hugh holds a Certificate IV in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. He joined the renewable energy industry and spent over 10 years onsite learning about all facets of operating wind turbine generators, as well as high voltage operations of the site and balance of plant.

Since transitioning to delivering training for RelyOn Australia, Hugh has been involved in the development of GWO training in Australia, while also training High Voltage across renewable and heavy industry sites in Australia and internationally.

“The development of the Certificate IV in Wind Power Generation qualification represents a significant step forward for the industry,” said Hugh.

It is laying the foundation to confirm the level of training of our current technician workforce, as well as standardising the skills that the industry should expect from competent and experienced technicians.

“The development of the workforce as a whole is critical to the success of renewables in Australia, as the workforce rapidly grows and projects spread across the country.”
